eh. actual rankings aren't released until Thursday. USNews & World Report hasn't confirmed that those are real rankings.
They are real, but it doesn't really matter. There is no substantive difference between #30 and #50. It doesn't really change the regional nature of our school, nor does it affect employers' views. If we were to jump to top 25 or fall to #70, then it would be a different story. But these yearly changes between #35 and #45 have happened over the past decade and the world is still spinning (albeit slower and according to some, warmer).
How do we know that these are real if USNews and World Report has not confirmed that they are real?
Last year we were 32. This would be a 12 place drop!

Yes, we were tied for 32 last year, with how many schools, 4. So you could look at us as either being 32 or 35... Anyway, the difference is imperceptible except to all those who think rankings are the end all to everything. Like I said, we're not compared to Duke or U Michigan by employers, nor are we any less "prestigious" now that we are 45 this year. Here is a scanned copy of the rankings to all those who think they need to be confirmed first. Nevertheless, don't panic. There has been no real change. On the other hand, since there are too many lawyers as it is, maybe those who think this does matter should quit now?

I am not sure how Fox News went nuts unless it's because they were the only media network to report on the tea parties.
If you only believe the left media you would have a brief mention of the tea parties as being some right-wing tax protest when in fact if you are paying attention you would do that the tea party protest spans two presidents, and two political parties and is comprised of a group of people who are protesting the way their money is being wasted by corrupt politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle.
No mystery there. You are seeing the rise of a third political party made up of independent thinking Americans, not a bunch of right-wing Republicans whining about their taxes.
But again - those who read the crap referenced here probably don't know any better. Those of us who are independent thinkers already know this.
Guys at my high school over paid to attend bottom feeder top-tier schools all the time . . . it was no big deal.

I want to know what the administration is going to do to address this.
I'd like to hear a rationale for this drop. Was it a state funding issue, did all the other schools incrementally get that much better? Is it the profs or the deans? Could it have something to do with the loss of student favorites like JM, TR, PW?
I don't really care much about the actual number but do care that this represents an at least perceived deficiency.
The fact that CU managed to drop 13spots during the same time frame the school's bar passage rate went up to 94%, received a $5,000,000 endowment gift out of nowhere, had a team win second place at the premier national moot court competition, and move in to a brand new $40,000,000 building is pretty convincing evidence the rankings are complete bullshit. What a sad commentary on our legal eduction system.
I assume PW is Weiser, but who are JM and TR?
JM and TR are adjuncts (I didn't write that comment but it is obvious to me). I would think the short time those 2 were present would be such that their departure wouldn't affect our rankings. They are awesome profs, but I don't know that their presence would be sufficient to register with the rankings systems. Just a thought.
@2:34: You're exactly right. Ask most professionals (biz, law, etc.) in the area what kind of training they want future employees to receive, and it's the mix of practical and theoretical that CU does a pretty damn good job of balancing (at least before they canned all the adjuncts that focused on the practical). CU didn't magically drop a bakers dozen in one year. You haven't suddenly received a worse education because of what a poll says. It's not like we were all getting SCOTUS clerkships at 32, and it's not like CO S.CT. will quit hiring clerks now that we're at 45.
US news can sit on their fists.
The US NEWS criteria is a total laugh. PW is just now leaving (but still on the faculty, right?) so that wouldn't be the reason. Worrying about this really isn't the best course. I don't think any employers are going to take that drop seriously.

I don't really care about the rankings since they mostly affect those of us who intend on practicing out of state, but this reeks of politics.
Maybe someone who works at CU or is a student there pissed someone off at US News? You know, like a bad breakup or a drug deal gone wrong
The employment stat listed at USNW looks low to me - maybe they changed how that's reported or something?
And it finally dawned on me that since they're ranking PT programs separately, that would bump DU up because (usually) PT numbers are lower than FT ones.
All I have to say is, I wouldn't want to attend any other law school in the country. And I truly mean that.
