Two questions and an observation:
1. If the gathering or party of such a quality that the sponsors thereof believe that the best way to entice people to attend is to advertise "Beer! Beer! Beer!", what equal incentive is offered for a non-drinker to attend?
2. If the class presidents are concerned about class members who don't go to parties at the Republic not contributing toward graduation expenses and class gifts, why don't they either a) ask for an outright donation, or b) count the non-drinkers' contribution to student fees for the kegs and cases non-drinkers never drink? (What, exactly, does all that student fee money go to, anyway? oops, that was a third question.)
3. The first issue of concern raised last year during the "non-trad" section of diversity gatherings was the centrality of alcohol to school activities. (And no, it wasn't me that said it! I am bummed about the "Monday Morning" cancellation, though. The message to the world is "Morning stuff with coffee and donuts, no. Afternoon stuff with alcohol, yes.") What I would like to see is a speaker or panel on the subject: "The Teetotaler in a Drinking World -- how to network and succeed as a lawyer without alcohol (and without coming across as a judgmental jerk)."

That is good news.
That was one of the reasons given for requesting a higher graduation fee, yes.
The rationale is that(at the current time, with no increased graduation fee assessed with tuition) the only way the substantial deficit differential between the amount collected in graduation fees and the amount expended for graduations could be corrected was by fund-raisers. And some of the most substantial fundraising occurs through cover charges for Dark Horse and Republic parties. Hence, those who don't go to the parties don't bear the same burden of financing the graduation as do their classmates who do party.
I'd challenge you to raise $2,000 with coffee and donuts...that's how much was raised at the Halloween Party.
I Just love the idea that Graduation isn't just taken care of. We need to raise money for the big shindig of walking across a stage? If the state was going to pay for anything, why not that?

No hit on the leadership for that question. It is just a silly policy that forces our classmates to find creative ways of raising money for something that should be paid for. Raising money for a class gift is one thing. Graduation is another.
The Univesity kicks in $8K for grad... which should cover the basics. Anything fancy like food, drinks, etc. at the reception are covered by the classes. Or so I'm told.
