According to Prof. Peppet, several ABA schools (including Colorado) are looking into absorbing the law students from Tulane and Loyola-New Orleans who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. I admit we laughed a little trying to imagine how we'd fit more into our section, but I know that we'd find room somehow, and gladly.
So, if perchance somebody in that situation is checking this blog, wondering if they should come up to Colorado, please know our hearts go out to you, and you are welcome to come!

apparently, the bar exams were in the office in new orleans. and the LA bar is one of the hard ones. and the records in the courthouses are all gone. the evidence from the prosecutor's offices are gone. a quarter of the state's attorneys had offices in new orleans. apparently the ABA sent out a newsletter to the listserv yesterday dealing with this stuff and also about the law students.
not that those things are as bad as the loss of life. but just things that you don't think about that will complicate so many people's lives.
A buddy of mine who was about to enter 3L at Tulane just sent out an email about enrolling at BU. He's from Boston, but Harvard's evidently only offering free tuition to those who had already paid up for the semester. I don't know how they're going to work it, but there's a possible silver lining in that he may be there for the full year, in which case he might end up with a degree from there and better chances of working in his home state.
On second thought, either way you slice it, it still sucks.
Honestly, I think charging tuition is a dick move. We should be finding people free space in student housing, not talking about resident and out of state tuition. It's embarassing.
